Dear Parents/Guardians,
As the year 2021 draws to a close I would like to thank you all for your continued support with the school’s Covid-19 response plan. I would also like to thank all the school staff for ensuring your children were kept safe and happy while continuing with their learning during the past months.
Student Council:
Scoil Mhuire is very excited to have its first ever student council established in the school. 8 Representatives from 3rd-6th class have now been elected after a wonderful election with some very interesting speeches. The student council is holding a competition at the moment to design a logo for the council. We hope to get this logo printed on 8 bibs/t-shirts for the 8 members. After hearing the amazing speeches in the elections, I know the council will be offering wonderful suggestions and ideas for the school in the new year when they meet with Ms. O’ Malley.
School Self Evaluation:
Thank you for taking the time to fill out the parent questionnaires for our school self-evaluation on literacy. We will be analysing the results of these with the pupil questionnaires to set targets and actions for our school improvement plan in literacy in the new year. We will continue to encourage pupils to read often and parents to question their child on what they have read to aid comprehension. Fingal library is continuing to offer access to e-books at the moment which may be useful for families if they can not visit the library in person.
Christmas Bingo Fun Day:
The Parents Association have organised a Christmas bingo fun day for the pupils on December 10th where each pupil can purchase a bingo card for €5. Bingo numbers will be called out by the teacher and each pupil will mark their card. We will also hold a Christmas raffle where pupils can purchase raffle tickets in their classrooms from Monday Dec 6th-Friday Dec. 10th. Raffle tickets will be sold in €2 strips. Each class will also decorate their own Christmas tree decoration which they can hang on the tree at home. Children will be allowed wear Christmas jumpers/tops/hats/hair accessories on Friday Dec. 10th. Thank you to the parent’s association for organising this and also for the donation of prizes. Parents can still donate any unused toys/gifts up until Tuesday for the fun day.
Digital Learning Plan:
We are at present updating our digital learning plan. The staff have recently engaged in CPD with a PDST digital advisor. We will continue to use the Beebots , Lego Wedo 2.0 and scratch programming for coding. The mini laptops will be used to enhance literacy skills where pupils will try out various digital tools in the area of literacy.
€2300 has been raised so far for a set of class tablets. Proceeds from the Christmas fun day will go towards the fund for the tablets.
Children’s Christmas Annuals
Children’s Christmas Annuals are still available to purchase from the school for €4 in all classes. These annuals are packed full of fun stories, games and activities which will keep the children well entertained over the Christmas holidays.
Christmas Panto:
As a special treat for the children this year Scoil Mhuire Mount Sackville has organised for all classes to view the panto “Little Red Riding Hood” online from the Helix. We hope all the children enjoy this festive treat with their class.
Visit from Santa:
Scoil Mhuire will have a very special visitor on Monday December 20th at 9:30a.m. for all the girls in the school. He will be making a socially distanced visit this year to greet all the wonderful girls in Scoil Mhuire who have been so good this year. The children are allowed wear their Christmas jumpers/tops/hats/hair accessories on this day and we would ask each pupil to bring €2 as a donation to the charities of the Sisters of Cluny
who normally receive a donation from our annual Christmas fair which couldn’t take place again this year.
Scoil Mhuire will close at 12:30p.m. on Wednesday, 22nd December. To avoid congestion junior and senior infants will need to be collected at 12:00p.m. on this day.1st&2nd will go home at 12:20p.m.3rd&4th will go home at 12:25p.m. and 5th&6th will go home at 12:30p.m
