December Newsletter

December Newsletter 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As the year of 2020 draws to a close I would like to thank you all for your continued support with the school’s Covid-19 response plan. I would also like to thank all the school staff for ensuring your children were kept safe and happy while continuing with their learning during the past months.

Hour of Code:

5th and 6th class recently participated in an hour of code session with Microsoft. The pupils found this most enjoyable and beneficial. We are continuing to promote coding amongst the pupils of Scoil Mhuire to enhance their problem solving skills. Beebots, Lego Wedo 2.0 and Scratch are being used in the school at present.

Art Competitions:

Congratulations to Mia Jose and Ann Anthony from 5th class who won 1st and 2nd prize in the Trinity College Habitat Diorama competition. Congratulations also to Aisling Sun (Senior infants) and Megan Sun(3rd class) who were finalists in the Texaco school’s art competition. Well done girls!

Christmas Bingo & Raffle:

The Christmas bingo and raffle day took place on Friday the 4th of December in lieu of the annual Christmas fair. It was a wonderful success where all the school community were involved. Thank you to the children, staff and parents for making this event such an enjoyable day for everyone. I would like to say a special thank you to the Parent’s Association for organising the event and also to all the parents for their generous donations and support. The Fair raised an amazing €2339 in total which will go towards the school fund for a class set of tablets.

Christmas Panto:

As a special treat for the children this year Scoil Mhuire has organised for all classes to view the panto “The Sword In The Stone” online from the Helix. We hope all the children enjoy this festive treat with their class.

Visit from Santa:

Scoil Mhuire will have a very special visitor on Monday December 21st at 9:30a.m. for all the girls in the school. He will be making a socially distanced visit this year  to greet all the wonderful girls in Scoil Mhuire who have been so good this year. The children are allowed wear their Christmas jumpers/tops/hats/hair accessories on this day and we would ask each pupil to bring €2 as a donation to the charities of the Sisters of Cluny who normally receive a donation from our annual Christmas fair which couldn’t take place this year.

Scoil Mhuire will close at 12:30p.m. on Tuesday, 22nd December. To avoid congestion junior and senior infants will need to be collected at 12:00p.m. on this day.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very happy and peaceful Christmas. I look forward to working with you all again in 2021.

Nollaig Shona dhaoibh go léir!

Is mise le meas,

Úna O’ Kelly-Principal
