November Newsletter

November  Newsletter 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope you and your family continue to keep safe and well at this time. Thank you for your continued co-operation and support ensuring the health and safety of all in Scoil Mhuire. The school will continue to uphold all health and safety protocols and ask for your continued support with this.

Parent-Teacher Meetings:

As advised in the previous newsletter teachers are  facilitating parent teacher meetings on Zoom this year as it is not possible to have parents into the school building due to Covid-19 restrictions.  All parents have been emailed the protocol for parent teacher meetings through zoom and teachers have issued zoom invitations to all parents.

Parking:

I would like to remind parents that parking on the school roundabout area is forbidden at all times. The roundabout area is to facilitate our drop off/collect and go system only.I would encourage parents to park in the car park and encourage their children to use the pedestrian walkway in the morning and evening, especially 4th,5th and 6th class. I would ask parents to depart as soon as they have dropped off/collected their child to avoid any congregation near the school. The safety of the school community is always the top priority of Scoil Mhuire and I ask you for your continued support with this matter.

Uniform:

The uniform shorts are only permitted to be worn in the summer term and the first two weeks of September. The school uniform for junior and senior infants consists of the red crested jumper, white polo shirt and navy tracksuit bottoms. 1st-6th class wear a blue pleated pinafore, blue blouse, blue tie, blue crested jumper, navy/black/brown shoes and navy/white/black tights/socks. 1st-6th class wear the school tracksuit on P.E. days. Necklaces, bracelets, drop earrings and hoop earrings are not allowed. Please ensure that your child’s name is clearly marked on all uniform items.

Science Week:

Scoil Mhuire thoroughly enjoyed Science Week 2020 where the pupils engaged in lots of fun science activities with their teachers. Pupils enjoyed investigating and collaborating on different experiments with some explosive results! The school beebots and Lego Wedo 2.0 were also used during science week as the pupils explored the possibilities of coding.

Christmas Bingo Fun Day:

The Parents Association have organised a Christmas bingo day for the pupils on December 4th where each pupil can purchase a bingo card for €5. Bingo numbers will be called out over the school intercom and each pupil will mark their card. We will also hold a Christmas raffle that week where pupils can purchase raffle tickets in their classrooms from Monday, Nov. 30th-Friday Dec. 4th. Raffle tickets will be sold in €1 strips.Children will be allowed wear Christmas jumpers/tops on Friday Dec. 4th. Thank you to the parents association for organising this and also for the donation of prizes.

Children’s Christmas Annuals:

Children’s Christmas Annuals will be available to purchase from the school on Nov.30th for €4 in all classes. These annuals are packed full of fun stories, games and activities which will keep the children well entertained over the Christmas holidays. Please put the €4 in a sealed envelope or bag when sending it in.

Santa Visit:

We hope to have a socially distanced visit from Santa on Dec.21st . The children are allowed wear their Christmas jumpers/tops/hats/hairbands on this day and we would ask each pupil to bring €2 as a donation to the charities of the Sisters of Cluny who normally receive a donation from our annual Christmas fair which couldn’t take place this year.

Is mise le meas,

Ms. O’ Kelly
